John H Howard was born in London and attended the Camberwell
School of Art. He graduated with a BA in Fine Art (painting, printmaking
and art history).
He showed his paintings extensively in Europe. A successful show at the Belgis-Friedel Gallery in New York City prompted a move to the United States and a parallel career in illustration was developed.
Initially, editorial, it rapidly expanded to encompass book publishing, advertising and corporate clients. Among them are Penguin Books, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Esquire, Bantam Books, Simon and Shuster,GQ, Playboy, Sony Music, Warner Bros., Dean Witter Reynolds, Booz Allen Hamilton, Chase Bank, SEIU, Amalgamated Bank of NY, Hewlett Packard and Global Crossing.
In this field John has been the recipient of many awards; gold and silver from the New York Society of Illustrators, CA Magazine, Print, American Illustration and the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators.
His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, The Library of Congress and the MTA.
His paintings were chosen by the Albright-Knox Museum for a travelling show of works on paper and he exhibits his work at the Kim Foster Gallery in New York.
He has been a member of the faculty of Pratt Institute and Parsonís School of Art.
